A little over a week ago, we ventured down to Bath for a long weekend to celebrate my wonderful brother-in-law's birthday. A fairly normal relaxing weekend break at Bath Mill Lodge Retreat - with the very special addition of my 3 week old nephew!
The place was really something - kind of like a cross between Center Parcs and a small caravan park - but with really posh lodges instead of caravans or villas! They were decorated immaculately and each had its own patio doors leading onto a large decking area. The weather was beautiful and we spent most of the weekend outside relaxing in the sunshine.
Oh, and having lots of cuddles, of course! Little Max & I didn't mean to match our outfits to each other but when in Rome!
...and prosecco, there's always prosecco!
On the Saturday morning we headed into Bath city centre in the blazing hot sunshine and stumbled across a wonderful Brocante market - I honesty had to keep pinching myself to check that I wasn't actually in France!
There were all sorts of weird and wonderful things on display, all so reminiscent of a balmy day in the Loire Valley, strolling along cobbled streets admiring the many oddities the traders had for sale.
The market was just oozing with rustic French country vibes!
After a lovely afternoon in the city centre, we then headed back to the lodge and fired up the barbecue for George's birthday dinner.
My darling Paul had been at work all day Saturday and drove down for the evening. He arrived just in time for prosecco on the decking but had a quick power nap in between courses whilst having a cuddle with little baby Max!
The next day, Paul and I headed back into Bath so he could have a wander round after his long journey down. We found some amazing little independent shops and I successfully added about £1000 worth of beautiful homeware items to my wish list in the space of 20 minutes - not bad going I say!
We did a very quick spot of sight seeing then drove back to the retreat just in time for a marvellous Sunday roast in the restaurant all together - we sat outside on the patio soaking up the rays whilst enjoying amazing food.
Later on we ventured into the woods beside our lodge for a woodland walk in dappled shade, followed by a few games of petanque on the grass with the river gently trickling along nearby.
Sunday became a relaxing evening curled up watching 'Jaws' then back home the next day, with a stop off half way to visit more family.
It was a beautiful weekend, filled with great food, stunning scenery and precious moments spent with family. You can book your own break at Bath Mill Lodge Retreat here. Only a week has gone by since we returned but I'm feeling ready for the next holiday to begin already! We're hoping to celebrate our 2nd Wedding Anniversary in Italy this year, so any recommendations for September in Tuscany will be gratefully received...
Have a great week!
