Victory Rolls & Roses
So on Saturday we were lucky enough to attend a friends wedding up in Cambridge. Paul was actually working - he'd been asked to play some lovely ambient piano pieces while guests arrived, the couple signed the register and had welcome drinks etc. We donned our finest, got him set up at the keys and then the day began.
I hadn't realised until we were on route that it was going to be an outdoor wedding - it had been quite an overcast morning and rain was forecast to come the hour before the ceremony at 1pm!
But as we were setting up Paul's keys, the sun began to shine through the cloud and very soon a beautiful blue sky appeared.
The beautiful bride, Tracy, walked up the aisle to Etta James' At Last, the birds sang their hearts out, the sun beamed down and a gentle breeze rustled through the trees.
And between, Paul's wonderful piano & organ sounds drifted around the grounds from his seat in the dappled shade of an old tree.
And then we all had a bloomin' good celebration, toasting the new Mr & Mrs Bain, sipping on champagne and nibbling gorgeous canapes.
After a quick glass of bubbly together, Paul returned to his keys up on the decking and began playing his gentle stripped back 60s songs once again. I used it as an opportunity to wander around and take some snaps of all the beautiful decorations.
And of course, snap a quick selfie!
After a drink, a chat and a bit of basking in the sunshine, we all headed upstairs to the Atlas room for the wedding breakfast. A gorgeous meal of pate, roast beef and lemon posset in amongst stunning floral arrangements (that evoked special memories of our own wedding flowers) and walls adorned with fairy lights. The sun continued to stream in through the beautiful domed window and the meal was perfectly finished by very kind and loving speeches.
We then headed back outside to the terrace for more drinks and some super trickery from a magician in the setting evening sun.
After a wander around the grounds with Paul, who's work was now done for the day, we grabbed a cocktail each at the bar and sipped them on the terrace in the setting evening sun. A magician kept us all suitably entertained while everyone relaxed and talked about the beautiful ceremony and day so far.
Later on it was time for the first dance, cutting of the cake & onto the evening music - mod 45"s played on turntables by the groom and two of his friends. We interspersed our time on the dancefloor with rounds of pinball on the retro Elvis themed machine & nibbling on decadent wedding cake.
It really was the perfect day filled with so much love and joy. A celebration that we all shared in, and felt honoured to be party to.
Have a wonderful week my friends! I'm trying to keep in touch despite my Macbook Pro giving up the goose over a month ago *sob* - hence my silence lately! But I'm hopping on a computer whenever I get the opportunity while I think about how I can get hold of a new Mac without having to commit any crimes... 😀
