Someone once said 'Good things come to those who wait.' Well, I'm hoping that's very true for the hugeee thing that I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for at the moment, feeling very unnerved and a little bit in limbo... I feel like I've been holding my breath for 24 hours!
My tightly crossed fingers aside, that statement is definitely true about gardeners. Many good things come to patient gardeners. I've learnt this over the last couple of years, great things are happening out of sight and they'll make themselves known soon enough. You've just got to be patient.
The great efforts planting those bulbs in the sharp October air bring you gorgeous spring flowers come March.
The excitement of checking your white peony every day for the first flower after planting it a year ago and seeing nothing. She's just not ready yet, that is all. She will come.
The sting of watching everyone enjoying their sweet pea flowers while yours are still growing and not even thinking about their colour yet.
The thrill of noticing lots of little green bobbles on the hydrangea, which seem to whisper that many flowers are soon to come.
And of course, the awe in which you stare at the first dahlia that you planted in February, which is now slowly unfurling the first of many damson petals and promising to be more beautiful than you ever could have hoped...
Have a wonderful week my friends!
