A Garden Update
So while on the phone to Mum last night, she uttered those wonderful words that officially mark the beginning of summer: "I need to buy my bedding plants this weekend."
Golly gosh! I've been daydreaming about this moment for so long I'd actually forgotten it would soon become real. After what seems like forever of worrying about whether my seeds will even grow, if the seedlings will strengthen and if the tiny plants that I've somehow kept alive (most of, anyway) will cope with the hardening off process, it's finally time to see if my hard work has paid off.
Providing the weather stays dry this weekend, I shall be outside planting everything up and I'll finally be able to stop holding my breath in a few weeks' time (hopefully). The dahlias are the best thing so far; the new ones are outgrowing their pots and the old ones have actually survived over winter. The anemones and sweet peas have unfortunately got a bit 'leggy,' despite me growing them in the brightest windowsills I have. Only time will tell how those will do, but the plan has always been to attempt some from seed and then back that up with plug plants too.
Half of my sunflower seeds have given up the goose; I've only got a few remaining pots now. *shamefully looks at feet* I can only guess that I underestimated how much water the cardboard pots would retain and I've drowned them! :( Oops! I believe the lessons here are that my windows are crap and I should listen to the packet when it says 'sow straight in the ground.' I was trying to give them a head start but I don't think I will again! Back to the garden centre it is then...
Anyway, it's suddenly become late May, so I must get shooting for a May Garden post! I can't wait to show you what we've been up to this month, there are lots of things I'm excited about. Of course, if they don't work I think I'll give the gardening thing up...
Yeah, right!
See you back here soon,
