Today I want to share with you some snaps of our invitation suite from our September wedding last year.
I spent a lot of time trawling through websites and magazines, trying to find a design that would fit in with our rustic-country wedding theme, but could never get any further than a design that only ticked some of the boxes.
I really wanted to have traditional wording with a layout that incorporated modern calligraphy, pastels and rusticity, without having to spend a fortune getting someone else to design the entire thing. After moving on to various sketches, sample packs & practice runs, I decided to design my own invites and get them printed online.
The design itself was simple, but once every aspect came together it made a complete suite that was exactly what I'd envisaged.
The powder blue of our names on the main invite was set to match the bridesmaids' dresses & the groomsmen's ties and pocket squares.
The pastel shades on the enclosed info sheet and RSVP card brought in the flashes of colour that would later be seen in the flowers and table plan display.
The kraft paper and twine mirrored the handmade hessian & lace table runners, the hand decorated jam jars and the rustic barn reception.
And the little tiny pearls were a gentle nod to the pearl-studded veil and jewellery that I would be wearing on the day.
It may have taken a long time for me to decide on exactly how the invitations needed to look, an even longer time for me to design and print them and further time still to write and construct each one, but we couldn't have had them any other way.
Wedding invitations are your guests' first little introduction to your wedding; the thing they can't wait to receive, the thing that sits upon their mantle right up until the big day, and the thing that they store in a drawer and find again in years to come, indulging in memories of such a happy and special day.
So to have your wedding invitations reflect your overall theme is one thing, but to subtly introduce your guests to little hints of the day to come is another. Your guests may not realise it at first but it plants a seed in their minds - the flower of which gently unfurls throughout your big day and blossoms into the happy memories that you have all shared together.
