Bringing the White Outside

by - Tuesday, April 22, 2014

So, you might have noticed that my last few posts have all been garden based! While I was in Gloucestershire last weekend, the weather was absolutely gorgeous but I was 150 miles away from my little garden so I couldn't get to work on it. (I was busy having a wonderful time, mind).

When I got back, I was beside exhausted from the drive but something clicked inside me and I began to rip out the ivy, bindweed and overgrown Forsythia that were attempting to take over one of the beds. My legs were so over worked by the time P got home from work that they wouldn't stop trembling... but I really didn't care... it was finally weed free!

So, ever since, I've been super motivated to get it looking better than ever and I've practically lived in the garden the whole time. So, the blog may be quite outdoorsy at the moment but it's because I've been quite outdoorsy, so I hope you'll be forgiving of my lack of recipes and crafts recently!

So anyway, on to the white. This weekend has been all about bringing a bright touch to my spring garden. I bought a couple of plain terracotta pots on Friday morning that I then painted in brilliant white out in the sunshine. I've got so much white around the house that it seems silly not to have any in my other favourite place.

As usual with me though, once I start making things white, I struggle to stop. I'm now writing a mental list of everything else in the garden that needs a pop of white. Including adding a hint of seaside beauty to the bird bath...

Oh, look at it! We don't really use it as a bird bath due to having a cat, I actually use it as a kind of hanging basket plinth in summer.

This was it last July:

Petunias and Lobelia galore!

The intention is to have the same look this July. It's going to be so beautiful with trailing summer flowers against the bright sunshiney white.

I love how much fresh greens pop when it's nearby.

I also love a wee burgundy Acer in a shiny white pot. It looks utterly gorgeous when the sun is out but will also brighten a dull day effortlessly.

I've used an exterior masonry paint for both the pots and the bird bath, which can be found here.

I hope you all had a glorious Easter and long weekend, wasn't the weather kind to us!? See you again soon,
