Quick Crafts: A Seasonal Garland

by - Wednesday, November 06, 2013

Well hello again! It seems it's been another busy week and I haven't had much time to spend here, despite it being one of my favourite places to be! Working full time, running a home and being a shoot stylist, photographer and blogger on here is getting rather difficult now we're in non-stop Christmas rush territory. So my apologies for my posts becoming a little sparse, but don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! :)

So today I've got another quick crafts tutorial for you! It's a seasonal garland that I've currently got hanging on my front door.

It looks quite autumnal but this is to fill the decorating gap in between Halloween and Christmas, or specifically, between pumpkins and holly wreaths.

  Seasonal Garland

What you will need:
A strip of hessian (or burlap) as wide and long as you like
Pinecones, twisted paper, corn stalks or any seasonal items you wish to add

Needle
Cotton in a similar colour to pinecones

What to do:

Tie the hessian into a large bow, and tease with fingers until it is a shape that you like.

Sew a pinecone onto the 'trails' of the bow, by weaving the cotton through the notches in the pinecone.

Repeat with as many cones as you want.

Next, incorporate any embellishments that you like. I used some of this lovely twisted paper to entwine into the pinecones.

I then added in a few stalks of dried corn that I picked in a field around harvest season.

To hang, place a drawing pin under the front part of the bow (to hide it) and pin through the back and into the door.

... and enjoy!

Our front door is sheltered completely from the rain by the porch, but if your door is exposed to the elements, just be careful that the items you choose won't be ruined if they get wet.

So that's it for today, guys. I'm sorry it's so brief but I'm amazed I've even found 10 minutes to write this tutorial up! I'm super excited about Christmas but I'll also be happy when the work has calmed down a little. Then I might actually find time to write my Christmas recipes... in January!

Have a great week, all!
